The challenge
An existing site at the end of a cul-de-sac was covered with thousands of square feet of requisite, existing split-stone retaining walls. Designing a home that met the narrow road exposure and expanded to wide (pie shaped) frontage on Long Lake afforded many opportunities to juxtapose substantial existing and intractable parameters.
The solution
Patching and amending the existing walls was deliberated upon by our stone mason. Maintaining the barn-foundation large flush mortar joints of these aged walls required substantial advanced planning. Split-stone fireplaces and concrete steps leading to the water provide enduring quality and great permanence to the hardscape. Wide-plank solid walnut floors, stairway and detailing added mass and weight grounding this perfectly set and imagined home with inspiring views from every room.
