The challenge
Function reimagined. A lovely and detailed home on Traverse City's historic Sixth Street, was under new but discerning ownership. The owners spent some time learning what they did and didn't like about this house. Once well familiar, they set about this major renovation. Reworking bathroom locations, repairing hundreds of years of structural issues and reimagining its function while remaining true to every historic detail on the exterior that adorns this artful, time-frozen passage.
The solution
Insightful design opened up living spaces to afford an expansive kitchen. New and transitional casework revived this lovely home and lends utility to every space. The exterior, slavishly restored, matches every detail in this prominently located historic home. Re-envisioned mechanicals throughout and expansive low-maintenance decks make for a charming piece of history that extends its owner’s modern conveniences while paying respect to its neighbors, our town and its historic locale. Awarded Best Residential Restoration by Traverse City's Historical Society in 2009, this gem greets neighbors and passersby, warmly.
